| What
can I expect my child to learn at Summer Theatre Fun Camp? Performance experience. Whether your child is a beginner or an experienced performer, the goal is the same: To grow more confident and capable as a performer by increasing skills for stage performance and auditioning. During each two-week session, students will receive individual and group instruction including voice, acting, scene study, improvisation, comedy, mime, mask and movement classes. |
| What
happens at the final performance? The final performance is a variety format. Each student will learn and perform at least one monologue and one song for the final performance. These performance pieces are suitable as audition material. Additionally, each student will learn and perform at least one group musical number with choreography. |
| Has
the Summer Theatre Fun Camp been successful in previous years? You bet! Summer Theatre Fun Camp was extremely successful in previous years. In fact, several former students are working professionals in the theatre today! |
| What
is a typical day at Summer Theatre Fun Camp? The first hour is devoted to fun physical and vocal warm-ups. These are specific body & voice techniques to improve performance capabilities and stamina. Acting class is next with concentration exercises and theatre games to improve focus, listening and response skills. Then the focus is on communication through mime, mask and movement, where emotion and intensity find their voice at a very soulful (silent) level! Sound returns with great hilarity and fun during the improvisation workshop, always a favorite time of the day. Then, it’s time to begin selecting monologues and songs, and there are so many wonderful pieces to choose from, so this takes some time and energy. Once a selection is made, the memorization and staging of the individual performance pieces begins and small groups are formed to begin learning lines and working on scenes and songs together. During the lunch hour everyone enjoys watching a favorite musical performance video and relaxing. After lunch it’s time to learn choreography as the ensemble song & dance number goes into rehearsal where all different skill levels will enjoy strutting their stuff together on performance day. The rest of the afternoon goes quickly because it’s concentrated performance technique refined through the rehearsal process. In rehearsal, we move from practice to performance, incorporating elements from the morning hours into preparation for Friday’s show for friends & family! |
| Is there
any homework? The best kind of work happens at home! Getting performance pieces up and “on their feet” as soon as possible is a priority, so concentrated time for memorization is required and encouraged at home! |
| Is
there anything I can do to prepare for camp before my session begins? Yes! You can look over some age-appropriate audition monologues and songs and choose a few that you might like to use to work on during the camp. |
| What
should my child wear? Comfortable clothes for movement and dance are required. |
| What
about dance shoes? Dance shoes are not required, but if your child has them, bring them. Since the group dance number will be choreographed to include ALL skill levels, don’t sweat the dance component at this camp. |
| What
materials are required? Blank audio cassette tape, a three-ring notebook, several number 2 pencils and a disposable camera to capture some great memories. |
| Is there
before and after care available? Not at this time. If the need arises, we will look into providing this extra service at additional cost. |
